PRELUDE

   After 50 years of glorious development, our motherland is now enjoying the jubilation of her 50th birthday.

    In the last five decades, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China with Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Jiang Zemin at the core successively, our county has witnessed an earth-shaking change and universally acknowledged achivements, for which every Chinese fells proud justifiably. Upon the great occasion, we wish to express our cordial blessings by publishing this picture album.

    Together with the progress of our country, and in the course of development for 46 years, All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce (All-China General Chamber of Industry & Commerce) has attained much success. During the initial period after the founding of our People's Republic, the Federation united with the vast numbers of industrialists and businessmen, and played an active role in consolidating the people's democratic dictatorship, restoring the development of national economy, and carrying out the socialist transformation of the capitalist industry and commerce. Since the reform and opening up, the  Federation has been following the Party's basic line of "one central task and two basic points", and upholding the glorious tradition of "being patriotic, devoted, and law-abiding". Much work has been done for training and bringing up a contingent of leading figures of non-public ownership economy and for encouraging and guiding the development of non-public ownership econowy.

    After 46 years of its growth, the Federation now comprises 1.347 million members which are of non-public ownership and diversified economy. There are 3019 organizations above the country level in the Federation. All this shows the Federation has become an important part of the patriotic united front and will certainly play a more active role in the socialist construction with Chinese characteristics.

    As the 21th century approaches, our motherland will usher in a new epoch in her long march. We are fully confident that our country will have a brighter future. The Chinese nation, with a 5000-year-old history, will work unremittingly for the realization of socialist modernizations. We are looking for the days when China is reunited and juvenated.
