China-Norway Business Network Conference Highlights Sustainable Growth

New energy experts and businesses swapped their latest experience and developments at the China-Norwegian Business Network Conference in Beijing on December 7, 2009 under the theme of Sustainable Development and Business Practices.


Song Beishan, Vice Chairman of All China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), Svein O. S?ther, Norwegian Ambassador to China, and John G. Bernander, Director General of the Confederation of the Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) attended the meeting.


In his opening address, Song Beishan, Vice Chairman of All China Federation of Industry and Commerce, said technological renovation is a way to boost economic recovery against the backdrop of financial crisis. “While the development of new and sustainable energies, the implementation of the energy-saving and -efficiency and emission reduction strategies, and the realization of sustainable social and economic growth is the inevitable path of world economy, technological innovation is an inevitable choice of the enterprises in their future growth,” Song said.  


He hoped that the convention will lay a solid foundation for broader bilateral cooperation and contribute to the final solution of the energy and environment problems faced by both countries.


S?ther gave an introduction on Norway’s energy use and environment protection. Bernander briefed the participants on the ongoing cooperation projects between the ACFIC and NHO.


The main seminar featured a number of speeches, including “Renewable Energy Opportunities in China’s Biomass Energy Industry” by Yan Xiaoying, President of Camda; “Norway at World EXPO 2010 Shanghai – Norway, Powered by Nature” by Commissioner General Arild Blixrud; DNV in China for a Sustainable Future by Per Marius Berrefjord, Managing Director DNV Sustainability Centre, Beijing; Now and Future: New Energy in China by Zeng Shaojun, Secretary General of China New Energy Chamber of Commerce; The Industrys Response to Growing Energy Needs and the Climate Challenge by JensPetter Kvarstein, Vice President Technology, StatoilHydro, China; and Towards Greener Buildings by Werner Jager, Director of Technology, Hydro Building Systems.


The parallel seminar focused on energy efficiency in buildings and heavy industries and biomass energy. The conference was co-hosted by the ACFIC and NHO in association with the Norwegian Embassy and the China New Energy Chamber of Commerce.
