President Hu Calls for Sound, Fast Growth of Non-Public Sector

Chinese President Hu Jintao has urged the non-public sector to make greater contribution to the transformation of the country’s economic growth pattern and improving the people’s livelihood, while the sector achieves sound and fast development over the past three decades since China’s opening-up program.

Hu made the remarks at a meeting with the representatives of the China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA) and the ACFIC to the third plenary session of the 11th National Committee of the China’s People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) who are meeting in Beijing for the annual political sessions since March 5. Other top Chinese leaders, including Premier Wen Jiabao, NPC Standing Committee Chairman Wu Bangguo, CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin, and other members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also audited the meeting.

In his address, Long Guojian, Standing Committee member of the CNDCA Central Committee and Chairman of Board of Supervisors of the Zoomlion, interpreted the government’s policy on speeding up the transformation of the economic growth patterns and the economic structural readjustment from the point of view of private business. Long said that what a private enterpriseit can do is to speed up self-innovation and re-adjust product structure according to the domestic and international market changes and the technological development trends of the sector.

Hu agreed and said that for a business to grow and prosper, it is important, first and foremost,to make quality products, which are the result of technological progress and innovation.

Lu Zhiqiang, ACFIC Vice Chairman, Vice Chairman of the China Society for the Promotion of the Guangcai Program, and China Oceanwide Board Chairman, said that the private enterprises have expressed strong desires to fulfill their social obligation and he suggested that the government provide them with policy incentives and support.

Hu expressed hope that the country’s private enterprises will link their business profit with social good and he urged the party leaderships and governments at various levels to create better environment and conditions for the private business to carry out their social responsibilities.

Creat Group Board Chairman Zheng Yuewen and Geely Group Board Chairman Li Shufu briefed the representatives about their own experiences on how to get a private business to gain an internationalfooting.

Hu said that against the current global economic conditions, a private business which wants to “go overseas” should seize the opportunities and expand themselves but at the same time they should be aware of the risks while seeking profits.
